Our founder, James Johnson, had a vision, in his own words: "If you can bring together great people, then you can achieve great things."

Before the pandemic, James successfully ran Nicoll Curtin, a venture he eventually sold to chase his dream. That dream was to unite exceptional recruiters who aspired to own their own businesses within a community of like-minded recruitment entrepreneurs.

District4 was born!

James identified two significant issues with the traditional recruitment model:

  1. Although recruitment firms claimed their people were the core of their business, they often had no choice but to prioritise the business itself due to financial demands and operational needs.
  2. The industry was witnessing the departure of immensely talented recruiters to other sectors, a trend that troubled James.

He began to think, "What would it look like if we genuinely placed people at the heart of the business model?"

For James, the answer lay in empowering expert recruiters to run their businesses independently while still receiving comprehensive back-office support and the camaraderie of a community of peers who shared their vision.

In this model, the focus would shift, with the people at the centre, and the business would work to serve them rather than the other way around.
